Recently I have been looking through Liam Stewarts photos on facebook and discussing with him about geting a bunch up here for you all to see. Liams been riding for longer than I can remember and been keeping it solid ever since. I couldnt choose any photos out of the huge amount hes got up but this one grabbed my attention because I remember spotting in the paper years back about the Forest Hill trails - The Man vs. Forest Hill Trails (mid - 2002ish)
Hopefully soon ill get a few more up....too many to choose from! Cheers Liam excuse the poor typing...Bolivian keyboards and dodgy internet rooms complete with old guys coming in begging for money!
Flow Visuals have a fresh new look to the website along with a bunch more content. Paul knows how to keep it coming with his web vids and the latest one is of Daniel Carson, filmed over a couple of months at Pukerua Bay, Paraparaumu and Waikanae skatepark. Cool little video and sweet riding from Daniel..throwing the whips in left right and center. flowvisuals.co.nz
Its already here. Merry Christmas! I still have a day to go due to the time difference. Arrived 3600m above sea level last night to LaPaz. I found this photo on the net... Sums it up quiet well. Get on it and have a fun one.
After about a week in Rio de Janerio where the weathers hot, street parties are constant, the beaches are mint and girls are even minter, we have changed pace big time. Currently in Bolivia which is a third world country as the photos below show. Stuck truely in the middle of no where waiting for a flight to a bigger, much better city for Xmas and new years. Still a great eye opener and cheap as anything. Just brought a 500ml coke for a buck!
These were snapped from my phone right outside the hotel...... Thankfully there was a hotel!
A walk down the road and you can by ridiculously big sky rockets!!
Here's one for the moaners back home about the NZ sceene. This photo of 2 old shiters for sale (still with cardboard on the frame) is the only hint of bmx I've seen and no where to ride....it's mostly dirt roads and 87% humidity. The heat here is like nothing Ive experience before...I know what 40deg heat is...but this is something totally different...it's horrible.
Take a close look at the right bike. Note the direction of the bars, forks etc. Now look at the brake levers....classic.
Tim Pierce completely kills it with his videos and he's put together the "Tim Pierce Showreel 2009" highlighting his work during the last year. I'm a real fan of Tim's work so I'm liking this video. See more on Zeros&Ones.
Well Rampage is officially open now and its rad. The spine mini is looking nuts. Just about finished with that. The session tonight was pretty sweet with some serious foam pit antics going down.. Itll be cool to see some of that going down on the box.. There was plenty of highlights tonight and a bit of a low as well.. Alan M was boosting the boxes too high, Frasier was getting styly and some long hair guy was boosting high very nice bar spins and shit. Some westies even made an appearance. We also got to see legend Dave M out as well. That was sweet. Louis B has picked up a new short term deal with ACC but still shredded.
Two lows were the kids that "forgot" to pay and than seeing Seth after his crash. The story I got is that he was going down a hill and his front wheel fell off.. Hes a bit like road kill at the moment.. We all hope he heals up quick and starts riding with us more. Always a good laugh when hes slothing it hard... O and I saw Jaden just learn 3 whips last week, well now hes catching 3 doubles.. yeah your a shit...
This first pic is from the tunneling project near mission bay. I had to the chance to check it out while I was doing some work there. Was pretty sweet and alot of money being spent to pump shit around..
This is the monster box I got at work. Pretty stoked on this bad boy. Only mitutoyo and koken in her..
Some hot slag being poured out of the furnace at the steel plant while I was doing some work there. Fucking hot from far away.
GetAcross is a campaign that has been running for quite some time now, trying to get cycle lanes added to the harbour bridge for us to be able to ride to and from Auckland city. They have been pushing hard and even got into a bit of trouble a while back for protesting and walking\riding over the bridge. The latest news is there has been some development which is a follows:
* NZTA confirm it can now technically be done. And that they are open to funding options like a toll * It will be on the City (best view) side * It will be under the bridge (so no impact on traffic lanes) * It has room for walkers and cyclists and lots of security and safety measures * It connects Westhaven Drive, Auckland to Princes St, Northcote Point * We have the opportunity it built in time for Rugby World Cup
Auckland riders have something to really be happy about these days. Finally we got a proper fuly sick indoor park in this country.. Some of the crew were fortunate to get a bit of a sneak peek and shred on the weekend. It was for sure one of the best sessions Ive had in ages. The park was so beyond all expectations I had. It was great to see everyone just smiling the whole time and having a great time on the 20's. I was a bit bummed ( actually very pissed ) to read all the poo on Zombie the other day. Anyways everyones heard enough about that. Stay tuned to Zombie for the final details on when you guys can come shred. And the owner is a sweet dude named Gavin. He's a genuine guy and working his ass off for all you guys to enjoy this. And he's got a newborn at home and he's been at the park like 24/7 to get it sweet for everyone. So much thanks to that and Im sure his wife is ready for it to be complete so he can have a rest and chill with the little one... So guys please respect the work involved and the sacrifices being made so this can happen... Heres a bit of the park..
The other day I went to get a drink at a shop next to my work and I came across this sign at the front door. Fucking hell. Otahuhu is dodgy as hell.
I've made the move up to Auck and now living next to the twins in Devonport. Thats been rad cause now Ive got great places to ride and the Auck guys are sweet. Been riding a bit with Jaden lately and that little shit has been inspiring me a bit to knock the cobwebs loose. Hes been killing it lately and always a good attitude. Thats what keeps BMX fun.. So Kirk if you're reading this I think you need to update the team.. Got to ride with Jono the other day as well. It's great to ride with the young guys cause they are so amped.. haha Too much energy..
I noticed this place on the way to Vic..Check the name of it. Wow asians are wild..
Well since hearing about the new indoor park and seeing the teaser on zombie all I can say is damn, I would kill to ride some indoor like that right now!
So its my first day off since i got back to vancouver and after a 60 hour week of nightshift all I wanted to do is ride.... but the weather had different ideas, I woke up this afternoon to this...
Never the less the snow was exciting so me and Ariel went for a roll down main st to see what we could ride. but ended up just messing around, taking full advantage of the snow fall and doing some drifts in the car parks and streets. Theres no more than 3cm out but still fun as since Ive never experienced that before.
Got a video, complete with an allyway shred. The allyways over here are complete Gnar, and as far as I know NZ has nothing like them. They are always full of spots, furniture, sketchy people, you can dump anything you want in them and garanteed its gone a day later, and just all round ramdomness and Gnar. This is the ally our van couch came from! We found some skis and shreded on our way to the beer store tonight. Got 5 blocks down the ally on the snow and ice.
Last week I was fortunate enough to have Auckland rider Lucas invite me to stay at his place on the coast in Brazil. I got to hang out proper style with his grandparents and great grandparents which is a rare thing! We ate some killer good BBQ and checked out the best buffet restaurant I've been to. Just outside the driveway was this ghetto ramp which was super sketchy and scary yet so much fun. Lucas had his bike so after a few vodkas and in a solid pair of jandals, we hit it up.
The only park ive seen so far on my travels...weird as hell transistions but still fun.
Quite some time ago I heard whispers that an indoor park was in the works and in the past few months they were confimerd. So it was exciting to see the post on Zombie that it will be open real soon. Not so cool are half the comments. It's unbeilvble that people can bitch about something like this. I've been to countries and citys that don't even have a half decent park bench to ride let alone any form of skatepark.
We're super luck in NZ with what we have to ride and even lucker to have such a strong growing sceen - those that bitch dont have clue how it was even 5 years ago let alone 10!
So it's only my opinion, but something like an indoor park needs proper respect. Any decent event, jam, comp, website or shop etc takes huge time, requires time away from riding and paying jobs and costs hard earned money, so I could only imagine the work, dedication, and money needed to start and keep something like this running so I'm psyched.....Can't wait to get back home next year and check it out.
If your've got shit about the price then don't go, save your Mum's $20 instead..... It ain't a public service so the solution is pretty simple. I'll gaurentee there's riders in the south island willing to kill for a jam at the indoor. Enjoy what yourve got and fuck the hate!
So on the same subject but a little lighter - I watched this video the other day and couldn't think of a better place for an indoor than a tunnel....sick!
I spotted Louis' updated WTP page....I guess he should be posting this up but never the less, looks rad, has a couple of photos, bike check, a short interview and his old videorama vid I thought I'd post above for those that never saw it...still a killer vid. Cheers for the shout out to!
Here's a few photos from Argentina...not a hell of a lot, just a few rad buildings, night shots and my favourite so far - an early morning rainbow over Bueno Aires. Also proper size beer!!!!
Tim White is featured in Open...an online magazine. If you know Tim or have just been to the shop you know why it works and why it's the place to go. If not then take a read of the article. Basically it describes Tims shop to a T...no extra words needed really. It also mentions T Whites has just been voted Metro Magazine's best Bike Shop in Auckland 2009! Take a read through the article and the interview.
A friend I made a while back while in Europe was Tomislav Moze..one hell of a talented photographer and also the offical Zion Bike Co. photograher. While in Croatia I was lucky enough to be part of the Vans Street Eposure - Three teams, in each: One photographer, three BMX riders and 7 hours to create 15 great photos. One really fun event and Tomislav was our photographer.....we won the first place.
Tomislav now has his own website and if your into photography in any way, or just appreciate a good photo or two....definitely head over and take a browse. All sorts of categories including some seriously creative stuff and all the photos from the Vans event. -click the top photo for the link.
Well, I guess everyones probably thinking of seeing Jed Main St jam updates..... Looking here at the moment your fresh out of luck! I left my camera cable back in vancouver, so you'll just have to settle for some vancouver photos. As of late pretty much the only thing we have been riding is the igloo, these are some of scotts photos from before he moved to alberta.
In Order: Scott, carving high, Little bit of art on the wall, Mick mate, just a few days before going back to ozz, George, euro table, over the best hip ever!
Thats all I got, probably the only post ill do here unless i can unload my photos before I fly out on Friday night.
Here's a few photos from a massive grave yard here in Argentina. It's called Rocoleta and is seriously intense. Huge tombs and some knarley stuff to be seen. Most of these photos have been taken by sticking the camera inside the gated doors and with a long exposure. Its a freaky place...a few tomb doors are open and there's black cats hanging around. Thought it'd make an interesting update.
